Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

When a traumatic incident occurs, sometimes the brain cannot process the situation the way it would for a normal event, and people may find themselves in distress, caused by sensory triggers (sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touch, thoughts and feelings) associated with the traumatic incident. EMDR is a technique that enables the "stuck" memories associated with the trauma to be processed so that the memories are no longer distressing, impacting day-to-day functioning.
